Cape Town girls' trip with Gisela Amponsah

A dream-city girls' trip from Accra to Cape Town: a waterfront hotel with impeccable service, a standout brunch, colourful Bo-Kaap, the V&A Waterfront and Camps Bay. Picked by Gisela Amponsah, who loved the city's beauty but is honest that she also had her first experience of racism here. Take an Uber at night, keep phones close in busy areas, and check opening times, as places often close early.

The Westin Cape Town

Place to stayFoodDiverse crowdWellbeing

A waterfront hotel where the service and food impeccable, with a huge breakfast buffet, a 19th-floor club lounge with city and mountain views and complimentary snacks (4–7pm), and thoughtful touches like a lavender sleep balm and Bibles in the room. Would stay at a Westin again anywhere, although a few white guests there were 'a little racist'. (via Gisela Amponsah vlog)

JARRYDS. Brunch Restaurant

FoodWelcoming

Brunch spot with a pretty, plant-filled conservatory under a glass roof, plus a small boutique. The staff very nice, they welcomed me and my group to take photos in the prettiest section. The French toast was the star; so juicy, so creamy. Brunch and drinks for three came to about R750. (via Gisela Amponsah vlog)

Bo-Kaap

HeritageTourist attraction

Historic Cape Malay neighbourhood of brightly painted houses and cobbled streets on the slopes of Signal Hill, a favourite photo stop. We were warned though to keep phones and cameras close, as snatching can happen. Visit in daylight and stay aware of your belongings. (via Gisela Amponsah vlog)

V&A Waterfront

ShoppingFoodTourist attraction

Cape Town's harbourside shopping and dining hub, with Zara, luxury brands from Louis Vuitton to Dior and Rolex, and lots of restaurants. It was chic and beautiful. Shops and even the cinema close early in the evening, and hotel staff advised taking an Uber rather than walking at night (about R40 from the Westin). (via Gisela Amponsah vlog)
